Attitude on Money

This week I read an article called the Attitude on Money by Stephen W. Gibson. This was a great article because it stated that making money is not bad, it is what you do with it that has the potential to be bad. I liked that Brother Gibson stated that “No matter who we are or what we are doing in life, money is a necessary part of it.” Even the prophet needs to think about money to build temples and do the work of the church. I think that making a lot of money would be great because of the security I would feel with a good amount in the bank. I think the important thing is how I act when I do make a lot of money. I think it would be important to not be pompous, or think I am better than everyone else. I would hope that money would not change who I am fundamentally. Making money would enable me to help others and provide for my family and our future needs. I think my view of money can affect the way I live in that I would like to make a lot of it, but not act like I have a lot of mo...

Dream Big

My “big dream” is that our cabin business can be successful and that we won’t go bankrupt trying to get them built. I also want my husband, David to love what he is doing. I think seeing him happy in his work is my biggest dream of building this business with him. I am easy going and will be happy just being able to work together and I just want David to be fulfilled in his work. I know that this project is stressful for him, but someday I hope that as the work progresses it can become fun for him.             The things I learned from this week’s reading and video is what a person’s most valuable assets are as an entrepreneur. These are intelligence, energy, and experience. I hope that between David and I, we have enough of these three assets to achieve our dream. I am going to school to learn how to run a business to improve my intelligence. David has construct...

My Own DPC

I feel extremely blessed to be able to attend BYU-I online. I think that the blessing of being able to finish my education online at home, without having to go to a classroom is a privilege. I think that even though I am not a campus student, I still get some of the benefits they enjoy in Rexburg. Some of the blessings are that all of my classes link back to the gospel, my math teacher was even able to link lessons back to the gospel. All of the resources for online students helps us better ourselves and become disciple leaders in our own way. So, in my own small way, I have a DPC right here in my home, connected with the BYU-I campus. It’s wonderful! The article that resonated with me was A Message to Garcia . I thought it was a powerful story about how we are capable of doing things without a lot of direction and that the ability to execute is such a valuable skill to have. Just being able to get a job done will impress employers and help a person to move up the ladder of success...

Overcoming Challenges

In the readings this week I was genuinely inspired by the talk and video from Elder Jeffrey R. Holland. His words of encouragement helped me to see that I can really do the thing I’m setting out to do. First of all, I was reassured that I can make it through my schooling. Elder Holland helped me to understand that even though it might take a few years, that I can do it and if I “stay at my post and keep trying” I will be successful. The lesson Elder Holland taught on perseverance about how the early Saints built the Salt Lake Temple, many of who would never enjoy the building in this life taught me how important my example is to my children and their children. They will be able to see how I kept going in spite of challenges and hopefully they can be inspired by me to keep going. My family has been inspired by some of our own ancestors’ examples of perseverance. Once my daughter was banged up in a minor car accident and was scheduled to work the next day. We gave her the choice of whe...
