Attitude on Money

This week I read an article called the Attitude on Money by Stephen W. Gibson. This was a great article because it stated that making money is not bad, it is what you do with it that has the potential to be bad. I liked that Brother Gibson stated that “No matter who we are or what we are doing in life, money is a necessary part of it.” Even the prophet needs to think about money to build temples and do the work of the church. I think that making a lot of money would be great because of the security I would feel with a good amount in the bank. I think the important thing is how I act when I do make a lot of money. I think it would be important to not be pompous, or think I am better than everyone else. I would hope that money would not change who I am fundamentally. Making money would enable me to help others and provide for my family and our future needs.
I think my view of money can affect the way I live in that I would like to make a lot of it, but not act like I have a lot of money. I like the idea of the “millionaire next door” someone who makes a lot of money, but you wouldn’t know it. I would like to live modestly, give to charity and secure my future with the money that I earn.
The rules that were recommended for prospering from this article was to seek the Lord and have hope in him, keep the commandments, pay tithing and fast offerings, plan how to become self-reliant, get an education, learn the laws that the blessings of wealth are given, and to give to the needy. I think these are good rules to follow, they will keep a person humble and remember who blessed them with the wealth in the first place.
